Consistent
vs. morning call of 60
The >55 band expects an up day — the S&P (+0.42%) and Nasdaq (+0.89%) delivered it on the exact factor the morning note led with: the tech-relief bounce.
What drove the day
- The oversold tech bounce fired as scripted. Chips snapped an 8-session losing streak — Intel on the JPMorgan upgrade, CoreWeave green on Goldman's Buy upgrade, memory names strong. Semis (SMH) +1.72% intraday.
- The oil tailwind held. Crude stayed off its highs after the Russia-sanctions waiver (Brent ~$108 vs $109.86 Friday), keeping the 10-year from spiking early.
- Yields crept back up into the close (10Y 5.09–5.15%), limiting the rally — the S&P faded from +0.84% midday to +0.42%.
- Rotation, not breadth. The equal-weight S&P slipped 0.10% while the cap-weighted index gained — the rebound was concentrated in large growth; most constituents were lower. The flat Dow (−0.08%) shows value and defensives were offered.
- The earnings gauntlet kept a lid on it. With Netflix Tuesday and Meta + Tesla both Wednesday after the close, traders positioned rather than chased.
